Gum disease is sneaky, and you rarely notice its presence until damage is done. Unfortunately, gum disease can damage your foundation, affecting many areas of your life, from how you eat to how you show up in photos and conversations.
Gum disease is much more dangerous than you realize. The damage isn’t just localized in your mouth. Left untreated, periodontal disease fuels an inflammation overload in the body, increasing the risk of cardiovascular disease, diabetes, respiratory problems, and other systemic illnesses. What starts as a minor issue can grow into a full problem that threatens your overall health.
If you have been told you have gum disease, surgery is rarely required. For most cases, non-surgical deep teeth cleaning can halt the progression of the disease. It’s often needed when the gum inflammation has advanced beyond what regular dental cleaning can fix.
This two-part treatment for gum disease involves:
At our Newport office, we provide a comfortable dental experience for all patients. We apply local anesthetics to ensure a comfortable experience. Several sedation options are also available to help ease anxiety. Depending on the severity of the infection, your treatment may be divided into sections to allow your mouth to heal between treatments.
We use a conservative approach to treating gum disease. However, when the infection has advanced too much and caused irreversible damage, surgery may be the best option. Often, the need for periodontal surgery is revealed during a clinical exam. If the periodontal probing shows excessive pocket depth or we detect significant bone loss on radiographs, Dr. Puri will recommend surgery. Possible surgical interventions include gum flap surgery, bone grafting, and guided tissue regeneration (GTR).
There is no one-size-fits-all cost for treating gum disease. The exact cost varies, depending on the treatment needed and the severity of infection. At our office, we are upfront about pricing. We’ll discuss costs during your consultation after examining your oral health. We’ll also discuss available payment options, including insurance and financing.
Early-stage gum disease is easier and less costly to treat than advanced periodontal disease. That’s why it’s important to take action as soon as you suspect gum disease. Ready for periodontal care?
